Bavaria in Germany is an area rich with culture, where you can sample delicious Bavarian cuisine and locally produced ale, as well as visiting some traditional German towns and villages. In addition to ski resorts and medieval cities, there are some wonderful health resorts to visit. Bad Steben in the Bavarian region of Hof is the Bavarian State Spa and is a wonderfully serene location for a relaxing break or romantic vacation away from the stresses of everyday life. As well as offering some great things to see and do, there are some excellent places to stay here too. Bad Steben hotels are where you can experience typical Bavarian hospitality and some excellent spa facilities.

Bad Steben is a traditional market town with a large health spa at its center. This 'Wellness Dome' contains traditional saunas and pools where you can swim and bathe in the healing waters of the local thermal springs. The spa treatments are based around the rich mud and minerals in the water that people from all over the world have been using to gain from their famous health benefits. The pump room at the spa has been gloriously decorated in a contemporary style, while maintaining its 19th century roots.

Around the Wellness Dome is a beautiful spa park that stretches out across the town. Here you can wander through exotic flower species and bubbling brooks. The surrounding environment of the Frankenwald Forest around the town adds to the sense of wellness that you gain from staying here by helping you get back to nature. The town sits high up on a forested mountain, looking down on the woodlands and offering a great area for exploring on foot or by bike. There are some excellent footpaths and hiking trails through the forest where you can enjoy the peace and solitude of this tranquil place.

The town itself has a rich and fascinating history, having been mentioned in property deeds as far back as 1374. It wasn't until the 15th century when the thermal springs with their rich mineral contents were discovered, that the town really grew and by the 19th century, the spa was developed for visitors to make the most of the thermal springs.

For this reason, there are some wonderful examples of historic Bavarian architecture in the town. The Rathaus, or Town Hall, is a beautiful example and an iconic building in the town. There are also two ancient churches at the heart of the town. St. Walburga dates back to 1020 AD. It encloses some stunning Gothic vaults and religious frescoes. The neighboring Lutheran Church, while much newer, stands as a wonderful example of the Art Nouveau style that was popular at the time that the building was created.

When you stay in this spa town, you will enjoy the health facilities of the town and there are some lovely places to visit in the local area too. Bad Steben is located in the northern Bavarian region of Hof, which is very close to the Czech and Swiss borders. The beautiful town of Zurich in neighboring Switzerland is not far away or you can hop over the border and explore the historic towns and cities of the Czech Republic. You can also sample Bavaria at its best in nearby Munich.

Bad Steben hotels are a great mixture of contemporary and traditional and there are options to suit every style and budget. Many of them contain health and wellness facilities of their own, to complement the main spa in the town. These facilities include heated pools, saunas, jacuzzis and modern fitness suites. You can even relax in a glorious Turkish or Hammam bath at your hotel after a long day exploring the local area.

The hotels here often include excellent hotel restaurants, allowing you to sample some delicious home-cooked Bavarian dishes or a choice of international menus. These restaurants are typically informal and family-friendly in stylish environments. You will be offered a hearty breakfast buffet at your hotel in the morning to set you up for the day, which will usually include Bavarian sausages and local produce. Many of the grander Bad Steben hotels also include bars and lounges where you can relax with some great local ale and enjoy the fabulous views of the Frankenwald Forest around you.
